Why should secondary school student learn AI?
We understand this is a pivotal time for students, our aim is to help provide your students with the theoretical and practical skills they need to be both safe and successful in an AI-centric world.

Current secondary school students are saturated with a storm of information with varying degrees of reality. Throughout an average day, students use a vast range of applications that employ artificial intelligence (AI) technology; Google search, YouTube and TikTok recommendation systems, and Chat GPT are but a few examples.Recommendations made by these systems, and the results they present to their users, are often now the basis for our decision-making and have consequently changed our students’ perceptions of reality.
It has become essential for young people to better understand AI’s fundamental applications/core functioning and processes. Such an understanding is crucial not only to develop a level of critical thinking with regard to AI but also for becoming more effective and adaptable
users as new technologies emerge. We aim to encourage students to harness AI in a positive and meaningful way, preparing
them to be effective leaders in the ever-evolving/unknown future world of work.

Who we are
We are a team of innovative Education
and AI specialists providing
tailored AI programmes for pre-GCSE students.
Our programme helps promote:
* Mindful and effective usage of AI
* Safety and security online
* Academic success, creativity, and personal development
* Adaptability as technologies shift and morph
* Girls in STEM subjects: targeting this age group allows us to help
address the continued gender gap that exists in STEM (this is one of
the reasons our programmes are aimed at age 13-14, before students
make their subject choices.)
* The importance of fairness and transparency in AI

What makes our programme special?
We have developed a unique, first of its kind training programme that
teaches the maths behind the technology. Rather than simply teaching
students how to use AI, this tried and tested method has shown that an
understanding of how the technology works with basic mathematical
theory allows students to become more effective and critical users of
AI itself.
AI technologies are based on highly evolved mathematical methods
which, as a general rule, are highly unlikely to be taught at pre-GCSE
level. However, our pedagogical techniques explore core AI methods
using the most basic maths possible (addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division of numbers). In areas where the use of
basic maths to teach the methodology poses difficulties, we took the
programme one step further and developed alternative methods based on
the same conceptual approach.
In addition, we provide students with access to our simulators to
complement the theoretical teaching. These simulators implement the
fundamental AI approaches we teach, giving students hands-on
experience and a way to consolidate their learning.

Examples of topics covered throughout the programme:
- What is artificial intelligence (AI)? The Turing test for AI.
- Search engines: How do search engines rank documents in response to a user’s query?
- Recommendation systems: Why is YouTube recommending these videos to me? How exactly do these recommendation systems work? How does a news website recommend the next article for you to read?
- Supervised classification: How can we train a computer to distinguish one visual diagram from another?
- Ethical considerations with respect to AI. What biases do these technologies present? How can we be mindful of them and what can we do to reduce instances of bias?
